Financial planning built by a barrister, for barristers.

Financial planning built by a barrister, for barristers.

Halesworth & Hurlston was founded to address the opaque nature of life at the bar.

Junior barristers enter practice without understanding their tax obligations, their pension needs, or the financial implications of the career decisions ahead of them.

Established practitioners accumulate fragmented financial arrangements that nobody has ever brought together into a coherent plan.

Senior barristers approach the end of a career without the retirement planning their decades of practice deserve.

These are not individual failures but a unfortunate consequence of the absence of relevant, accessible, expert guidance which genuinely understands the inner workings of the Bar and the profession pays for that absence in financial stress, poor decisions, and opportunities that compound quietly over years.

We intend to change that.

We are building the financial infrastructure the Bar currently lacks including the resources, the tools, and the evidence base which will allow barristers at every stage and in every practice area to understand their financial position clearly and plan for their futures with confidence.

We intend to bring genuine transparency to financial life at the Bar: what barristers earn, how their finances evolve across a career, and what the financial impact of the profession's defining decisions actually looks like.

Bringing transparency to life at the bar

Every service we offer, every piece of guidance we give, every conversation we have with a client is shaped by someone with current, lived experience of what it means to build a career at the Bar.

We want to provide every barrister with the opportunity to access financial education, resources, and tools to be able to make informed decisions regarding their life. To do this, we work with barristers at every stage of a career from Bar Training Course (BTC) students who are anticipating their entry to the bar, pupils navigating their first self-assessment to senior practitioners planning the transition out of full-time practice.

We provide financial planning services to individual barristers and work with chambers, Inns, and specialist Bar associations to bring financial education directly to their members.
